New PhD Scholar – Umayal Venkatasamy

Vision Research Foundation is excited to announce we have awarded a 3 year PhD Scholarship to Umayal Venkatasamy. 

Umayal is a dedicated Computer Science Lecturer and researcher with over 9 years of experience in teaching and research. She holds a Master's degree in Embedded System Technologies from Anna University, Chennai, India, and is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Umayal’s PhD research focuses on using deep learning to detect, quantify and predict Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at its early stages using MR imaging. Umayal's expertise spans artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science and image processing. Her primary objective in future research is to develop effective artificial intelligence algorithms to detect various brain diseases as early as possible with a high level of accuracy.
